Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027

The Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027, scheduled from 14 July to 25 September, is expected to welcome over 12 million devotees to the holy city of Nashik, Maharashtra.

This spiritually significant event is held once every 12 years, centered around the Shahi Snan (royal bath) in the sacred Godavari River, a ritual believed to wash away sins and pave the path to moksha (liberation). With major upgrades in infrastructure, transportation, sanitation, and digital crowd monitoring, the 2027 Kumbh Mela is expected to surpass the scale and organization of the 2015 edition.

Kumbh Mela is held after every 12 years when Jupiter is in Aquarius and the sun and moon are in particular zodiac signs. In Nashik, people gather at the Godavari river and have a holy bath in Ram Kund as per ritual.

Based on Hindu Mythology, drops of Amrit (immortality nectar) were dropped by Vishnu at Godavari in Nashik while being carried in a kumbha (pot). The drops had fallen at the four locations accordingly: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik.
